The country star spoke to\u00a0Entertainment Tonight<\/em>\u00a0at the grand opening of his new restaurant bar, Ole Red Las Vegas, on Wednesday (April 17), where he was asked about the chances of him coming back to the long-running singing competition series. <\/p>\n

\u201cI miss the people. I mean, those people became like family to me, literally from the crew all up to the producers of the show. I was with them more than I was with my family\u2026 I miss that,\u201d Shelton said.<\/p>\n

Shelton was part of\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u2018s original coaching line-up alongside\u00a0Adam Levine,\u00a0Christina Aguilera, and\u00a0Cee-Lo Green. While the rest of the coaches swapped and changed over the years, Shelton remained a consistent presence for 23 seasons.<\/p>\n

However, while he misses his former co-workers, the Grammy-nominated artist said he doesn\u2019t \u201cmiss the job at all.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI totally needed a break from that because if I wasn\u2019t into it, then it wasn\u2019t good for whoever was on my team,\u201d he explained. \u201cI don\u2019t want to be someone who\u2019s just going through the motions. Those artists need somebody fighting for them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelton, who had nine wins over his\u00a0Voice<\/em>\u00a0career, added, \u201cThe second I started feeling like, \u2018Oh my gosh, I don\u2019t even remember what season this is anymore. Who are the coaches on this season?\u2019 [I knew that] I needed [to get] away from here.\u201d

The \u201cAustin\u201d hitmaker noted that he feels good about his decision to leave. But he did mention there is one thing that would bring him back, and that\u2019s if NBC could gather Levine, Aguilera, and Green for a season of the original coaches.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf they were ever able to put together the original four coaches again, maybe [I\u2019d return] for one season, a one-off,\u201d he stated. \u201cThat would be fun for me\u2026 That would be something I would be interested in doing.\u201d<\/p>\n

One thing Shelton is grateful for is how\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u00a0introduced him to his future wife,\u00a0Gwen Stefani, who joined the show as a coach in Season 7.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first season she was on\u00a0The Voice<\/em>\u00a0we met [but] we really didn\u2019t talk that much,\u201d he recalled. \u201cIf you would\u2019ve told me the first season that we met that\u2019s what was gonna happen, I would\u2019ve been like, \u2018No, we actually don\u2019t even have anything to even talk about. What are you talking about?\u2019 It\u2019s crazy how things work out.\u201d<\/p>\n

Shelton and Stefani started dating in 2015 while both were going through divorces. They announced their engagement on October 27, 2020, and got married on July 3, 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen you find that life partner, that missing piece you didn\u2019t know what was missing\u2026 it\u2019s like, \u2018Golly, you can go ahead and kill me if this ever goes away or ends or something happens. There\u2019s no going back now,\u2019\u201d Shelton told\u00a0ET<\/em>.<\/p>\n
