Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0is set to air its final episode this week, and barring a surprise renewal for\u00a0season six, fans are beginning to look to the next show to join Taylor Sheridan\u2019s ranching universe. In August,\u00a0TVLine<\/em>\u00a0revealed that there was a\u00a0Yellowstone\u00a0<\/em>spinoff, tentatively titled\u00a0The Madison,<\/em>\u00a0in the works. Shortly thereafter, casting announcements helped to flesh out a clearer idea of what\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s successor will look like.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Since then, the pace of news has calmed a bit, but in a new\u00a0interview,\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0executive producer Christina Voros, who directed four of the six episodes in the show\u2019s most recent season, did confirm that much of the flagship series\u2019s team has moved on to\u00a0The Madison<\/em>. Speaking to\u00a0THR<\/em>\u00a0about rumors of Sheridan\u2019s ever-expanding catalogue of shows, Voros said, \u201cThe team that I\u2019ve been working with has moved from\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0into\u00a0The Madison<\/em>, so I know that new show is happening and Taylor is excited about writing it.\u201d<\/p>\n The news ignited some mixed feelings among fans. On the one hand, the new spinoff gaining the expertise of the team behind the beloved original show surely bodes well for the quality of the new series. On the other, the fact that many of the behind-the-scenes pros from\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0have a new gig would seem to be another nail in the coffin for the Dutton drama, which has been rumored to be in contention for a sixth season pick-up.<\/p>\n Even the stars themselves seem to be in the dark about what\u2019s ahead for the larger Sheridan-verse. When asked by\u00a0TVLine<\/em>\u00a0in October about\u00a0The Madison<\/em>\u2018s impressive cast, Patrick J. Adams, merely responded, \u201cYes\u2014and I have\u00a0no idea<\/em>\u00a0what I\u2019m allowed to say about that show, so I\u2019m going to say absolutely nothing except \u2018yes\u2019 to what you just said.\u201d<\/p>\n Here\u2019s all the latest information on\u00a0The Madison:<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Despite the fact that the series has been billed as a spinoff, so far, very little information has been revealed as to its connection to the main\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0storyline. Ahead of\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s apparent series finale, none of the character from\u00a0The Madison<\/em>\u00a0have appeared on screen, nor has the spinoff ranch been mentioned. That may yet change when\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s final episode debuts.<\/p>\n In an interview with\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u00a0following\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s November season premiere, Voros said of the new show, \u201cIt\u2019s such a different story. The common ground is the landscape. We are in Montana, but it is seen through a completely different lens, so it feels like another facet of this cut stone that has been polished. There are parallels in the scope of landscape and a human being\u2019s place in that space, but it\u2019s coming at it from a completely different point of view.\u201d<\/p>\n The logline for the show explains that the series will be \u201ca heartfelt study of grief and human connection following a New York City family in the Madison River valley of central Montana.\u201d While the show has consistently been billed as having a connection to\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>, thus far it\u2019s not clear exactly how the two series will intersect.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Initially it was reported that\u00a0The Madison<\/em>\u00a0(which has also operated under the title\u00a0Madison<\/em>) would \u201cfollow wealthy matriarch Stacy Clyburn and her family as they leave New York City and head to Montana in the wake of her husband and brother-in-law\u2019s tragic deaths in a plane crash.\u201d It\u2019s not currently clear whether those details remain accurate.<\/p>\n The series announced its star, early on, as none other than Michelle Pfeiffer. \u201cMichelle Pfeiffer is a remarkable talent who imbues every role with emotional depth, authenticity and grace,\u201d said Chris McCarthy, the Co-CEO and President of Paramount Global and CEO of Showtime & MTV Entertainment Studios, which will co-produce the series. \u201cShe is the perfect anchor to the newest chapter of the\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0universe,\u00a0Madison<\/em>, from the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan.\u201d Pfeiffer will also executive produce.<\/p>\n In late August, it was revealed that Matthew Fox, known for his work on series like\u00a0Lost<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0Party of Five<\/em>, will play opposite Pfeiffer as Paul, \u201ca self-reliant bachelor who loves the outdoors.\u201d<\/p>\n Fox joins former\u00a0Suits<\/em>\u00a0star Patrick J. Adams, as well as Elle Chapman, Beau Garrett and Amiah Miller.<\/p>\n Adams will play Russell McIntosh, \u201ca young investment banker who has followed the life path set before him from the start,\u201d according to a release announcing the casting. Chapman will play his wife, Paige, \u201ca somewhat self-centered woman who indulges in a luxurious New York lifestyle provided by her parents and investment banker husband,\u201d while Garrett will portray Abigail Reese, \u201ca resilient and sardonic New Yorker, who is a recently divorced mother of two.\u201d Miller will play Abigail\u2019s daughter.<\/p>\n Per\u00a0Deadline<\/em>, Chapman and Garrett\u2019s characters will be the daughters of Pfeiffer\u2019s character.<\/p>\n When news of the show first broke, Kurt Russell was also said to be close to signing a deal for the show, though no additional announcements have been made about his involvement since.<\/p>\n Perhaps most notably for fans of creator\u00a0Taylor Sheridan\u2019s universe of\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0shows,\u00a0Variety<\/em>\u00a0reports that\u00a0The Madison<\/em>\u00a0is indeed the spinoff previously operating under the working title\u00a02024<\/em>. Pfeiffer was\u00a0previously<\/em>\u00a0expected to star in said series\u00a0alongside Matthew McConaughey, who has been rumored to join the Dutton universe\u00a0for over a year.<\/p>\n 2024<\/em>, which was announced last fall along with an additional prequel series\u00a01944<\/em>\u00a0(following on the heels of Sheridan\u2019s Dutton-focused\u00a01883<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a01923<\/em>) has been the source of speculation since McConaughey was originally rumored to be joining the\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0as far back as February 2023. However, despite the persistent word that the star was in talks for the project, no casting confirmations for him ever materialized.<\/p>\n News that\u00a0The Madison\u00a0<\/em>is indeed the renamed\u00a02024<\/em>\u00a0would seem to indicate that McConaughey (who was said to be growing impatient over protracted contract negotiations earlier in the year) is no longer involved. Likewise it would appear to make the chances of current\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u00a0stars Cole Hauser, Kelly Reilly, and Luke Grimes joining the series less likely, despite word that they were close to signing on for the project at one point in 2024. No official announcements have been made on either of those fronts, though, so for now fans will have to continue to hope.<\/p>\n Per\u00a0TVLine<\/em>\u2018s previous reporting,\u00a0The<\/em>\u00a0Madison\u00a0<\/em>was slated to begin production in August, with filming planned for Montana and New York, as well as Texas, where filming for\u00a0the second season of the prequel\u00a01923<\/em>\u00a0is also currently underway. Adams later confirmed in October that the production was in the process of filming in Montana.<\/p>\n When\u00a02024<\/em>\u00a0was announced, it was slated to debut following the final installment of\u00a0Yellowstone<\/em>\u2018s season 5 (the first half of which concluded in January 2023.)
