After being named the Season 26 winner of \u201cThe Voice,\u201d Sofronio Vasquez is reflecting on his past while looking toward the future.<\/div>\n<\/header>\n

Vasquez, who remained on Michael Bubl\u00e9\u2019s team throughout the season, spoke in an interview after he was crowned the champion of the NBC singing competition on Dec. 10. He says that although it\u2019s been a few days, he\u2019s still processing his win.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s settling nicely right now, and I am close to the point that I believe that I\u2019m a winner,\u201d the 32-year-old humbly says. \u201cI\u2019m just grateful. I mean, it\u2019s a blessing, and, yeah, I\u2019m just so happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"The<\/a><\/p>\n

The singer grew up on the island of Mindanao in the Philippines, and while his family lived in poverty, music was a source of joy for their household. His father especially supported his love for music, and Vasquez credits him as his first coach, per NBC Insider.<\/p>\n

Vasquez initially pursued dentistry as his career, but after his father died in 2018, he decided to pivot to music to not only provide for his family, but to honor his father\u2019s life.<\/p>\n

Now, with a \u201cVoice\u201d championship under his belt, he says he would tell his dad, \u201cI think we made it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Vasquez shares that after he was announced as this season\u2019s winner, his family in the Philippines visited his father\u2019s grave, which has a Bible passage on it that makes him \u201cemotional.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt says Timothy 4:7, I have finished the race. I fought the fight, and I kept the faith,\u201d he recalls. \u201cSo I guess that\u2019s his message (to) me, saying, \u2018Congratulations. I told you, you just have to keep the faith.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

As for what\u2019s next, Vasquez says he\u2019s going back to where he currently lives in Utica, New York, to thank his community for being such a \u201cbig support\u201d during the competition. He also got invited by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of the Philippines to visit his official residence, Malaca\u00f1ang Palace.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe I didn\u2019t understand it yet, how big it is for Asians to be represented (in \u2018The Voice\u2019), but they are so happy,\u201d he shares.<\/p>\n

\"Michael<\/a><\/p>\n

Vasquez doesn\u2019t share any long-term career goals, but when asked if he would ever consider revisiting his dentistry roots, he\u2019s open to the possibility.<\/p>\n

\u201cMichael Bubl\u00e9 told me, \u2018Buddy, you just have to set that aside for now, because (you) have a lot of work to do.\u2019 But in my heart, I would never, ever forget, because I also love dentistry,\u201d Vasquez explains.<\/p>\n
