One of the latest sensations to hit the network music competitions actually lives in the Mohawk Valley. Sofronio Vasquez has taken \u201cThe Voice\u201d by storm.<\/p>\n

The singer, born in the Philippines, has rung up more than nine-million views on Facebook. And right now, we\u2019re going to find out how his journey brought him to \u201cThe Voice\u201d Utica.<\/p>\n

His love of music came from Karaoke which is very popular in the Philippines. He came to America for a better life, his first stop was to San Diego then to Utica two years ago to attend dental school. He auditioned for \u201cThe Voice\u201d earlier this year and hopes to continue on to the live shows.<\/p>\n

Sofronio performed \u201cEverything\u201d by his \u201cThe Voice\u201d coach Michael Buble on Bridge Street and was accompanied by Edgar Pag\u00e1n and Jim O\u2019Mahoney.<\/p>\n

Filipino singer Sofronio Vasquez continues to raise the Philippine flag as he made it to the Top 5 of \u201cThe Voice US\u201d with his heart-rending performance of Elvis Presley\u2019s \u201cIf I Can Dream.\u201d<\/p>\n

The \u201cTawag ng Tanghalan\u201d alum announced on his social media that he made it to the finale of the singing competition as he asked for continued prayers, as he is now one step closer to claiming the ultimate title.<\/p>\n

\u201cWE MADE IT TO THE FINALE [US and Philippine flags],\u201d he began. \u201cThank you so much to my Filipinos everywhere and in America who gave so much love and support. And of course, I want to say Maraming Salamat to my hometown, Utica, Upstate New York, Mohawk Valley, and everyone! Grabe kayo. One last vote next week for the finale. Please continue to pray for me.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with People Magazine, Vasquez shared that he was holding back tears because he didn\u2019t want to appear \u201ctoo emotional\u201d during his last performance.<\/p>\n

Vasquez previously wowed the audience with his rendition of Roy Orbison\u2019s \u201cCrying,\u201d which led him to advance to the Top 8. At the time, he also received a standing ovation from his coach, Michael Bubl\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Aside from the Philippine bet, Shye, another contestant from team Bubl\u00e9, also made it to the top 5 with her performance of \u201cThe Joke\u201d by Brandi Carlile.<\/p>\n

Also included in the top 5 roster are Danny Joseph, whose coach is Reba McEntire, Jeremy Beloate from team Snoop Dogg, and Sydney Sterlace from team Gwen Stefani.<\/p>\n
